NEW Norcia Bakeries will feature in a food documentary series to be telecast on the ABC and BBC.
The television program, Surfing the Menu, is based on a couple of chefs who visit eight regional areas of Australia and cook a lunch based on the local produce.
The program is expected to air on the BBC later this year and on the ABC early next year, and according to New Norcia Bakeries director Kingsley Sullivan, the half-hour focus on New Norcia will boost its international and Australian reputation.
“That helps our international marketing because it is televised on the BBC and it will be the main food program for the ABC nationally,” Mr Sullivan said.
He said the chefs in the show used the New Norcia wood-fired oven to cook the entire meal and devoted time to explaining the town’s tourism aspects.
Mr Sullivan said he had pitched the idea about an episode on New Norcia to the show’s producers during the pre-production phase.
