Perth identity Janet Holmes a Court has decided to close her East Perth art gallery, a month after it celebrated its tenth anniversary.
In a statement, Mrs Holmes a Court said the gallery will close its doors in October when the lease expires, but the exhibition program will continue at the Vasse Felix Gallery in Margaret River, owned by her son, Paul.
Mrs Holmes a Court has previously said she was looking for another city location, however in the statement today said "it was impossible to find a place as beautiful as the Claisebrook Cove site".
Gallery director Sharon Tassicker told WA Business News that Mrs Holmes a Court will now focus on the art collection, which contains more than 4,000 pieces, rather than concentrating on the exhibition program. The collection will be available for loans and research.
She also said that some of the activities the gallery held - such as the artist in residence program, private viewings and artist conferences - will continue at the Vasse Felix gallery.
