Highway Construction wins $28m contract

Bassendean-based Highway Construction has secured a $27.6 million contract from Main Roads Western Australia as part of an upgrade of Onslow Road in the Pilbara.

Highway Construction beat two other submissions to secure construction works for the second phase of the Onslow Road upgrade.

The project involves a structural overlay of Onslow Road, Ansia Road improvement works, and floodway repairs on Onslow Road.

Sixty per cent of the contract relates to highway and road construction services, while the remaining portion involves highway and road resurfacing services.

The initial expiry date of contract is November 22.

In its 2018 annual report, Main Roads said the total cost of the Onslow road upgrade would be $67 million, for completion by September this year.

Watpac Civil and Mining secured the $10.5 million construction contract for the first phase of the upgrade.

Phase one consisted of 33 kilometres of upgrade and improvements to the Onslow Road and North West Coastal Highway intersection.

Main Roads said Onslow Road is a critical access road for Chevron’s Wheatstone project and the local community of Onslow.
