THE first winner of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s Gull Awards – tales of the truly gullible, has been announced.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, works for an Australian financial institution and told the tale of a Gosford housewife who believed she had access to an unlimited supply of ‘super’ bonds.
“She rang and offered to sell us US Government Treasury Bonds that were ‘yielding’ 13 per cent for three to six months. At that time the true rate was about 5.5 per cent.”
The winner said he would be putting his $50 prizemoney towards helping an exiled Nigerian prince access money from his homeland.
