Great Southern Mining has wasted no time in getting drill rigs back on site at its northern Goldfields Cox’s Find project to follow up on the high-grade gold shoots that were left behind by the old timers at the long abandoned artisanal underground mine.
The Perth based explorer is planning to drill nine kilometres of RC over two phases with the first phase churning out five kilometres of RC and 500m of diamond drilling.
The company said that between phase one and two at Cox’s Find, it will take the RC rig down to its Mon Ami gold project, located 80km south to drill a 3000m program.
Great Sothern’s diamond drill holes will capture the first look at the Main Lode of Cox’s Find and it will give the Geologists plenty of valuable information from which to target the mineralisation in future drilling campaigns.
RC drilling during phase one will target the extensions of high-grade mineralisation along strike and down plunge, where last year, RC drilling identified impressive gold hits such as 5m grading an ounce to the tonne gold from 134m downhole and 8m grading 9.43g/t from 73m down-hole in another hole.
Great Southern said that three notable new target areas at the Cox’s Find project have been identified and are “geological look alikes” to the high-grade Cox’s Find main orebody. Management said these three areas, which are located just north of the historical underground mine, will be targeted in the second phase of drilling.
Cox’s Find was run by WMC between 1937 and 1942 and produced about 77,000 ounces of gold at a whopping head grade of 22 grams per tonne. With limited modern exploration carried out over the past 25 years, Great Southern has been methodically exploring the historic goldfield over the past year and ithas produced some impressive numbers.
Great Southern Chief Operating Officer, Mark Major said: …”This is an extremely high-grade deposit and has all the hallmarks of a potential modern- day underground development.”
“This will be the first intensive drill program targeting the down plunge extensions of the deposit and the first diamond drill program targeting the high-grade lode. This program should enhance our structural understanding of the deposit and assist with advancing the forthcoming drill programs at the Cox’s Find deposit and support targeting repeat structures within our tenure.”
