The state government has talked up the benefits of its transport plan for the new Perth Stadium, with up to 23,000 patrons expected to take one of the two bridges crossing the Swan River as they exit the stadium after an event.
An online video showing the various transport options for patrons to get access to, and leave, the stadium was released today.
The government says the transport plan will enable 50,000 patrons to leave the stadium within one hour of an event finishing, with 28,000 of those expected to leave via the new stadium train station.
The new stadium has a maximum crowd capacity of 60,000; that means only about half of patrons leaving the stadium can expect to vacate the precinct by train within the first hour of an event finishing.
After an event, 14,300 patrons are expected to leave via the new pedestrian bridge in East Perth, with 8,100 expected to leave the city in their cars parked around the suburb, while 6,200 are to use the special event bus network on Nelson Avenue to get to car parks in the CBD and drive out of the city.
About 8,600 are expected to walk across the Windan Bridge, with the majority to use the East Perth train station from there.
Releasing the video today, Transport Minister Bill Marmion said it would help people plan their journeys ahead of time and ensure they pick the travel option that best suited them.
“Great experiences are as much about the journey as the destination, and that’s something we’ve taken into account when developing the travel options,” he said.
“Whether it’s a picturesque walk across the Swan River pedestrian bridge, a cycle through the lush native gardens surrounding the Perth Stadium, or a relaxed trip on the train to the landmark Perth Stadium Station, there is an option to suit everyone.”
