Dr Biggs had been acting general manager since the commission’s establishment last November, following the restructure of CALM.
“While being acting general manager, Dr Biggs has guided the commission through the testing time of its establishment and the very significant operational changes that have occurred under the Government’s forest policy,” commission chairman Murray Jorgensen said.
Dr Biggs has been working closely on the development of the Commonwealth and State forest policies and international greenhouse negotiations.
In addition, Dr Biggs was the key author of WA’s greenhouse emission strategy.
The Forest Products Commission’s responsibilities include sustainable harvesting of State-owned native and plantation timber and development and marketing of the forest products industry.
