The federal government will today announce Fulton Hogan Industries has won a $7.7 million maintenance works contract for the RAAF Base at Gingin.
The company's construction workforce is expected to peak at about 80 people as it undertakes aircraft pavement and aeronautical ground lighting works at the military airfield, about 55km north of Perth.
Work is expected to start in May, and is part of the $149 million National Airfields Capital Works Project that has already seen upgrades completed at the Army Aviation Centre Oakey, in Queensland, and RAAF Base East Sale, in Victoria.
RAAF Base Gingin is primarily used for pilot training activities.
In a statement, Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said the maintenance work would ensure the airfield was fit for purpose.
“The project will provide a welcome boost to the WA economy and maximise opportunities for local businesses to be involved," she said.
“Under the Defence Policy for Industry Participation, Fulton Hogan is committed to awarding at least 75 per cent of the subcontract packages to local businesses. Fulton Hogan is also committed to employing a 6 per cent Indigenous workforce and awarding 6 per cent of the contract value to Indigenous companies.”
