Friends Restaurant owner declares council bid

Friends Restaurant owner Clyde Bevan has become the third candidate to declare he will run for council in The City of Perth's October election.

That comes as FJM Property's Sandy Anghie declared her mayoral bid earlier this morning.

Mustang Bar managing director Matt Keiller and former City of Bayswater councillor Brent Fleeton have also declared bids in the past week.

Mr Bevan has owned and operated the venue on St Georges Terrace for more than two decades, and has been a frequent media commentator over the years.

He was chair of Lotterywest between 2004 and 2010.

Announcing his bid this morning, Mr Bevan said he would endorse media personality Basil Zempilas for lord mayor.

All other candidates running for council have declined to make an endorsement thus far.

Mr Zempilas has said he will assemble a ticket to run alongside him for council ahead of October's election, but it is unclear whether Mr Bevan will be a part of that ticket.

The City of Perth has been without elected representation since 2018.

Elections to the council's eight vacant council seats and mayorality will be held on October 17.
