A move to the city six months ago is paying dividends for BDO, one of Western Australia’s largest full service accounting firms. After 12 years in Subiaco, the firm relocated to new, state-of-the-art premises on Spring Street in the CBD to accommodate its growing team.
Office Managing Partner James Massie-Taylor said it was an exciting time for BDO’s clients and personnel.
“We’re delighted with our new office facilities. We’re closer to many of our clients and our people are enjoying the benefits of being in the heart of the city,” said James.
“What differentiates BDO as an employer is our focus on relationships – with our clients and our personnel,” said James.
“Our people are highly skilled professionals who are passionate about what they do. This is linked to our purpose of People helping people achieve their dreams and dovetails nicely with our people centred approach to helping clients.”
BDO’s focus on people and relationships was a big attraction for Jill Svanberg, the firm’s new Head of People and Culture. Jill joined BDO after more than a decade in Human Resources spanning professional services, aviation, education and government sectors.
“This is an exciting time to join BDO Perth,” said Jill.
“We have an inclusive culture, underpinned by our values of one, bold, strive, heart and human.
"The new office is modern, sophisticated and has had a positive impact on engagement. We have seen many of our people who were working from home during COVID returning to the office to make the most of the new work environment.
“One of BDO Perth’s key strategic priority areas is people, and the investment we make in our people will naturally have positive flow-on effects for the client experience."
Jill said there was a great deal of opportunity to build on this strong people-first foundation.
“Our People and Culture strategic priorities will include growth opportunities for our people, further embedding a valuesbased culture, and enhancing the day-to-day people experience.”
Sustainability and ESG (environment, social and governance) are emerging focus areas for BDO. The firm is currently partnering with Curtin University to engage students in a sustainability challenge.
“This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand from students about how we can apply a sustainability lens across everything we do,” said James.
