It is no secret that affordable business management software can deliver growth opportunities and cost savings for business.
However, Wangara-based fleet management company Fleetcare has deployed a system that has helped it to become a national company with an annual turnover of $80 million.
Since implementing custom-built solution my.fleetcare four years ago, Fleetcare has reported 12 per cent cost savings on staff and increased its
number of managed vehicles by
96 per cent.
Fleetcare founder and managing director Nigel Malcolm said my.fleetcare had been developed in response to “on demand” customer requirements.
“This positive return can be directly attributed to our portal, my.fleetcare, which gives our clients direct and instant access to the information they require and reduces the number of times they need to contact Fleetcare,” Mr Malcom said.
my.fleetcare was initially developed using Microsoft technology, however, this year the company upgraded the system using IBM DB2 Universal Database and IBM WebSphere Application Express.
Using IBM technology the company has been able to deliver a cost-effective, scalable solution that improved the type and speed of information available to clients.
Mr Malcolm said the total development cost of my.fleetcare to date was $450,000 and that the company planned to invest a further $500,000 in the next four years in ongoing development costs.
“The return to us has been two-fold – we've reduced our staff resources by 12 per cent whilst at the same time we've actually grown our business 96 per cent” he said.
“my.fleetcare is now doing the repetitive tasks and we've given the customers a higher level of service.” Fleetcare was established by Mr Malcolm in 1989 as an independent fleet management company.
"I came from a dealership background and I could see that here was a gap in the market.
"The first foray into the eastern States market was in mid 1990, initially off the back of a WA-based company that had Eastern States-based business.
“Now, 60 to 70 per cent of our business is eastern States’ business,” Mr Malcolm said.
Fleetcare services include fleet management, vehicle and fuel supply management, insurance, driver training and 24 hour roadside assistance.
