Surefire Resources has uncovered two new potential gold targets to the west of its Yidby gold deposit in the Mid West region of WA after receiving results from the company’s latest RC drilling campaign.
The new Marshall prospect is a gold mineralised zone about 150m to the west of the Yidby deposit whilst the Fender target features wide gold mineralisation about 400m north-west of Yidby.
Assays at Marshall recorded a 60m intercept at 1.04 grams per tonne gold from 32m including an impressive 4m hit going 10.04 g/t gold from 72m.
Results at the Fender prospect showed a 20m section going 0.4 g/t gold from 104m whilst a second hole produced a 32m hit at 0.32 g/t gold from 144m.
The latest assays are from a 2754m RC campaign consisting of 23 holes primarily aimed at testing mobile metal ion anomalies and adding to the current Yidby Road deposit.
Surefire says the new western zone significantly increases the golden footprint at the Yidby project whilst exhibiting large widths with typically higher-grade gold within a mineralised halo.
The explorer’s model predicts the central area will feature wide zones of gold with localised higher grades similar to that seen in the reported hole.
Surefire has begun a round of six diamond drill holes across 800m at the site whilst testing is planned for the two new targets at Fender and Marshall to examine the strike.
Several notable gold deposits surround the Yidby project, including the 1.1-million-ounce Minjar gold project 65km to the north-west, the one-million-ounce Kirklocka gold project 70km to the north-east, the sizeable 2.1-million-ounce Mount Gibson gold project 30km to the south and the 540,000-ounce Rothsay gold project 30km to the west.
The US Geological Survey reports 3000 tonnes of gold were produced last year and pegs Australia as the world’s second-biggest producer with a total of 330 tonnes, pipped only by China and its 370-tonne-haul for top spot on the leader board.
The greater Yidby project covers 114 square kilometres across the Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt and includes three prospects where gold mineralisation has been identified.
Surefire describes Yidby as a blind discovery hidden beneath about 20 vertical metres of barren transported overburden.
Historical drilling in the area predominantly has been shallow air core drilling with only the occasional targeted RC drillhole.
In May, Surefire reported up to 83m wide zone of gold mineralisation at the Yidby Road deposit, with massive quartz-sulphide veining and felsic porphyry.
Assay results from five of 18 holes drilled included 44m at 2.77 g/t gold from 149m including 3m going 26.47 g/t gold from 150m.
Surefire has good reason to be excited about the possibilities of the two new targets as it continues to build its potential at the Yidby project.
