Subiaco-based engineering and construction contractor group, Doric, says it is on track to deliver the $138 million Hedland Health Campus to the Pilbara after already delivering key regional hospitals in Denmark and Broome.
The Hedland Health Campus, which is being built on Colebatch Way next to the Karlarra House residential aged-care facility, will replace the ageing health campus in Port Hedland.
The new centre will bring together the majority of health related services that are currently spread over sites in both South and Port Hedland to become a health care hub for the Pilbara region.
With multiple services on the one campus, Pilbara residents will have access to more specialists in one convenient location and staff from different work areas will be able to work more closely together.
Doric chief executive officer Peter Iancov said the project was due for completion in the third quarter of this year, and the hospital was the second stage of the Hedland Health Campus Redevelopment.
He said Doric's experience in delivering state-of-the-art hospitals to the WA community since its inception in 1989 had driven the company to become the construction company of choice for the health-care sector.
"The redevelopment of Broome Hospital was completed prior to Christmas and the
Doric team is on track to deliver the Hedland Health Campus which is progressing very well," Mr Iancov said.
"The vast distances between Perth and the regional centres where these hospitals are being built are quite considerable; however, our capacity to deliver quality construction safely and on schedule is why we've been able to secure these contracts.
"Despite the physical distance of Hedland, Broome and Denmark, Doric has proven capacity to deliver quality construction to its clients and regional communities."
Mr Iancov said hospital construction was a specialised process and required high levels of project management.
"Whether the hospital is a new build or a redevelopment, hospitals are complex in terms of construction," he said.
"The onsite project team can deal with a number of issues including constructing while the hospital is still in operation. A number of sensitivities need to be taken into consideration and our team is well versed in dealing with these issues.
"Our commitment to zero harm and extensive experience with live sites ensures the project is delivered safely and to the highest of quality."
