DiscovEx Resources has unveiled a series of potential walk-up drill targets across two of its gold projects in the mineral-rich Yilgarn Craton in WA. Soil geochemical sampling at its Edjudina project near Kalgoorlie has unearthed a suite of compelling drill targets, whilst auger drilling at the Newington project, some 65km from Southern Cross, has identified potential extensions to the Newfield Central and Dawsons high-grade quartz lodes.
The sampling program at the Edjudina project was focused around the Celia Shear that is home to a myriad of historical workings that are peppered throughout its extent. Previous explorers around the area have delivered some notable intersections, one of which was a 5m hit going 3.3 grams per tonne gold from 68m, including 1m grading 11.4 g/t gold from 69m.
Another 2m intersection graded 6.6 g/t gold from 60m.
Interestingly, the company says the historic intersections are only about 2.5km apart and that the region has only received shallow and likely “ineffectual” drilling.
DiscovEx tested the prospectively of the area by bagging up 405 soil samples across the 2.5km window of weak drill coverage.
Results from sampling appears to have accentuated the areas prospectivity, showcasing an elevated gold tenor around the host structure - before the response was masked by a thin layer of transported material.
According to the company, the transported material becomes progressively deeper to the north west, however prior drill logs suggest it is potentially under 18m thick.
Analysis of airborne magnetic data that was completed over the area of cover showed tightly folded lithological units and associated faulting. The area will now be tested through an aircore drilling program once a rig can be secured.
Meanwhile, at DiscovEx’ Newington project near Southern Cross, the company collected close to 280 samples with the intention of identifying the potential surface projections of the Newfield Central and Dawsons high-grade quartz lodes.
It says it has identified a 250m long anomaly grading over 15 parts per billion gold. Interestingly, the anomaly peaks at the intersection of the lodes with a grade of 67ppb.
DiscovEx Managing Director, Toby Wellman, said: “Results from both Edjudina and Newington show the importance of identifying and believing in the fluid pathways of a gold system, even when they are obscured by overburden. Many a prospector effort has been thwarted by transported cover, but the loss of the prospector is the gain of the modern explorer. The test now will be with the drill bit. “
DiscovEx's recent activities cap a busy few weeks for the company, who only last week announced the discovery of a host of multiple “kilometre-scale” gold geochemical targets with grades of up to 0.5g/t gold at its Sylvania project near Newman in the Pilbara Craton.
The Pilbara Craton, which is better known for its iron ore deposits, is becoming an increasingly popular area for gold exploration, particularly after De Grey’s discovery of the over two-million-ounce Hemi deposit.
With a trilogy of projects all progressing across mineral-rich areas, DiscovEx looks to be laying the foundations for a cluster of promising gold projects and with no shortage of targets to go after, the company is spoilt for choice.
