Diabetes Australia WA is the State branch of Diabetes Australia. The organisation aims to help people live with diabetes, help families learn how to incorporate diabetes into their lifestyle, alert the community to the seriousness of diabetes, liaise with health professionals and support diabetes research. The organisation made a key appointment earlier this year, adding Liz Kerrigan as its new CEO. Ms Kerrigan has extensive experience in senior management roles in financial and business management.
Diabetes Australia WA Board
Dr Barry Fatovich – currently the president of DAWA and serves on the Board of Diabetes Australia Ltd. General Practitioner at the Lockridge General Practice and active member of the Perth and Hills Division of General Practice. He is involved in the education of general practitioners and has experience in country and metropolitan practices.
Catherine Ferrari – vice president. Former CEO of the WA Symphony, Catherine previously played a key role in the membership function of the WA Division of Australian Society of CPAs.
Tim Benson – treasurer. Semi-retired with a background in senior business administrative positions. Active member of the Health Consumers Council and a range of other consumer advocacy and community advisory groups, a Commissioner for Declarations and Chairman of the Board of the Fly by Night Musicians Club Ltd.
Stuart Clarke – secretary. Retired Chief Marine Engineer with many years’ experience in a range of community organisations including Councillor of City of Canning, Red Cross, Curtin University Community Service, Victoria Park Safer WA Community Policing Group, and Willetton Drug Action Group.
Bill Coleman – Chief Commissioner of the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission. Mr Coleman has had an affiliation with the Board of Diabetes Australia Western Australia since 1994, serves on the Board of Diabetes Australia Ltd and is vice president of the Diabetes Research Foundation of WA Inc
Prof Alex Cohen – Clinical Professor, endocrinologist and president of the Diabetes Research Foundation of WA. Professor Cohen was the first Western Australian to become president of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Patricia Marshall – is a member of the Australian Diabetes Educators Association and was a member of the National Board of Diabetes Australia Ltd in 1997 and 1998. She has been a diabetes educator and dietitian for 23 years, in Queanbeyan (NSW), Katherine (NT), the Solomon Islands and the Pilbara (WA), most of the time working in local community health centres.
