Decmil wins $34m Atlas road contract

Decmil Group has won a contract with Atlas Iron for the design and construction of a major road project in the state's Pilbara region.

The Woodstock Marble Bar Road upgrade contract is valued at more than $34 million and will include sealing works, floodways and intersection works to approximately 55 kilometres of road.

Decmil expects to mobilise its workforce later this month and is aiming to complete the works in May this year.

"We are delighted to commence 2014 with this win from Atlas," Decmil chief executive Scott Criddle said.

"While market conditions within the resourced sector remain challenging, the award of this contract adds to the group's solid platform for the year ahead and strengthens our position in construction and civil sectors."

The decision by Atlas to upgrade the road will improve the safety and visibility for quad trains that traverse the road to and from the company's mine sites.

Shares in Decmil are trading up 1 cent at $1.96 per share, as of 7:45am, WST.
