Construction and contracting company Decmil Group has announced new contract wins collectively worth $137 million, including a major new deal with Fortescue Metals Group.
Decmil Group chief executive Scott Criddle said subsidiary Decmil Australia had won a $50 million deal with Fortescue, to construct rail workshops and facilities.
The works are part of Fortescue's Pilbara infrastructure expansion plan, to export 155 million tonnes per year by 2013.
Decmil also announced variations to two current contracts; $40 million in additional accommodation works for Fortescue's rail construction camp; and additional rooms for the construction workers' camp at Chevron's Wheatstone gas project, worth around $47 million.
“These wins demonstrate our ability to add significant value to key customers, providing innovative and flexible solutions to their requirements on major projects,” Mr Criddle said in a statement.
Mr Criddle said works on each of the new contracts would commence immediately, and be completed in around 12 months.
Decmil Australia managing director Ray Sputore said “Decmil can be trusted to deliver outstanding results in meeting the pressures clients experience in the fast moving resources industry.
“We have proved our ability to get projects across the line and overcome the many challenges faced,” Mr Sputore said.
Commerce Minister Simon O'Brien said the flow-on effects from the contracts to the local economy, through job creation and reputation, would be significant.
“Decmil is already sub-contracting to nine local businesses, and will generate further work for regional companies when the camp package is transported to Onslow on its completion later this year.
