Former Western Power managing director David Eiszele has been appointed as the new chairman of Verve Energy.
Mr Eiszele brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously been chief executive of the State Energy Commission of WA.
"Mr Eiszele was a leading manager of WA's electricity entities and oversaw significant reforms in the state's energy sector," Energy Minister Peter Collier said.
"We are heading into challenging times and Mr Eiszele's extensive knowledge of WA's energy needs will be invaluable."
In 2003, Mr Eiszele resigned from the Western Power managing director post in controversial circumstances, after he questioned the break-up of the utility in four separate businesses.
The state government has previously said it had not ruled out re-amalgamating Verve and Synergy.
Mr Eiszele has also been the chairman of the Electricity Supply Association of Australia and director of Wind Energy Corporation.
He is currently director of Torrens Energy Limited, chairman of energy and resources asset management company PearlStreet Limited and chairman of the Lions Eye Institute.
