Data shows consumers are stubbornly gloomy

A range of positive factors, including solid wage growth, has failed to lift the mood of consumers.But Treasurer Wayne Swan says that while the Australian economy does face challenges such as cautious consumers, it stands in stark contrast to Europe teetering on the edge of recession.
