The state government expects that new residents will start moving into National Lifestyle Villages' new $30 million housing estate in Karratha by Christmas.
NLV has partnered with LandCorp to establish Warambie Estate.
The homes within the estate are built in Perth and delivered in two parts by semi-trailer to Karratha.
The homes weigh less than brick and tile but are stronger and less expensive to build.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said, "This is a clever and efficient way to deliver well appointed, affordable accommodation for Karratha's retail, tourism and general service workers."
It takes about 13 weeks for them to be ready to move into.
The estate will provide a mix of one, two and three bedroom homes for up to 250 people.
Subsidised rent is expected to range between $350 and $500 a week.
NLV Group chief executive Mike Hollett said, "We are extremely delighted with the progress of the project which is on-track, on-time and on-budget with plans already in-line to accelerate home production from two per week, to four."
Mr Grylls said about 240 people have applied for the first 50 homes to be allocated.
"The highest ranking 15 applicants will be offered home to occupy before Christmas," said Mr Grylls.
A further opportunity for people to apply for the remaining 50 homes will be offered in March 2011.
