Centurion Transport has acquired national express freight business Rocky’s Own Transport, as part of the transport and logistics provider's expansion to service other major industries.

Rocky’s Own Transport was established in 1985 and is based in Rockhampton, Queensland.

The freight company deals with carrying high explosives, heavy haulage, refrigerated services, and the transportation of bulk dangerous goods, including ammonium nitrate.

Centurion chief executive Justin Cardaci said the acquisition was part of the company’s strategy to expand its services to the mining and agriculture sectors.

“We have been carefully building our national presence and this acquisition reflects the strength of Rocky’s Own Transport and its market share in the key sectors in which it operates,” he said.

Centurion has a solid presence in the mining and energy sectors, and this acquisition is a natural fit for us and an extension of our capabilities.”

The asset sale brings up Centurion's national employment number to more than 2,000 people, the company said.

Mr Cardaci commended Rocky’s Own chief executive Bryan Smith and national operations fleet manager Rod Carige in building the business of transporting dangerous goods across Queensland, WA and NSW.

Rocky’s Own Transport has depots in Rockhampton, Wacol, Helidon, Yarwun and Kalgoorlie.

“We welcome the 300-plus Rocky’s Own employees into our business,” Mr Cardaci said.

“We’re also excited about the career advancement prospects for our new employees that will come with them being part of Centurion and our national operations.”

In a statement, Rocky’s Own Transport said the previous directors and all staff remain with the business.

“While we integrate into our systems and processes with Centurion, it is business as usual for our staff and the services we deliver to our customers,” the company said.

“Our primary goal is to ensure a seamless transition with Centurion and you can expect the same level of professionalism, quality and dedication that you have come to associate with our business.”

Centurion is based at the Perth Airport Logistics hub but has distribution centres in WA, Queensland, NT and Victoria.
