The Cancer Council WA has launched its 2016 Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, urging businesses to help reach $1.7 million this year.
The morning tea has been one of the major events on the state's fund raising calendar for more than two decades.
Cancer Council WA CEO Susan Rooney said by registering their business to hold a morning tea, employers can show they’re aware of the indiscriminate nature of this disease.
“Opening the company boardroom to share a cup of tea and some delicious food with your employees can seem such as simple idea. Yet, by taking part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea employers can connect with staff who have been affected by cancer, while at the same time raise funds for the Cancer Council,” said Ms Rooney.
“Throughout May and June people right across Australia will be gathering for their Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea functions. The official date is Thursday, 26th May – a work day, so it’s the perfect excuse for management to lead by example and hold an event at work!”
“All money raised helps fund the Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention programs, and support services for cancer patients and their families.”
Nine Entertainment Perth managing director Ray Wardrop has encouraged all bosses in Perth consider getting involved as his business will.
“I’m very aware that cancer will have an impact on all members of my team, either by experiencing it personally or seeing it affect a loved one. It’s a terrible disease and we’ve registered to hold at event at Nine Perth to show our support and also make a financial contribution to the cause.”
With one Australian diagnosed with cancer every five minutes, Cancer Council Western Australia is aiming to raise $13.8 million nationally.
