Senior journalist Tom Zaunmayr has won gold in the best body of work by a single journalist and silver in the best bylined commentary category for large publications.
The judges applauded his entry in the best body of work category, saying the material was well written and expertly sourced.
“The roads that crisscross Western Australia provide the infrastructure that supports its mining operations,” the judges said.
“In the hands of this talented writer, the fact that this aging road network is hurting the industry is riveting reading.
“The writer brings that writing spark to other pieces on the biofuels industry and regenerative farming.”
Journalist Isabel Vieira won first place in the best coverage of local breaking news for her series of articles on a potential lawsuit against BGC Housing Group.
The judges said her stories gave readers a front row seat to legal and public battles between thousands of homeowners and a developer giant.
“The story uses enterprise reporting and sources to explore what happened, what went wrong, and who’s to blame,” their comments read.
Former Business News journalist Matt Mckenzie won gold in the best beat reporting in economics and finance, for his pieces on the state’s changing economy.
The ESG series, produced by journalists Liv Declerck and Nadia Budihardjo with designs by Katie Addison, received silver in the best ancillary publication category.
"Exploring an important and relevant topic through the nuances of business, the stories in this publication are actionable and helpful for business stakeholders," the judges said.
"The design allows the articles to stand out amid ads and partnerships, with powerful pull quotes to guide the reader."
Business News’ Afternoon Wrap won a gold award in the best daily email category this year, a step up from a bronze award in the same category in 2023.
"Readers can quickly get the news when they open this email each day. The efficient headlines and categorization provides something for everyone," the judges said.
"Not only are the topics diverse, but promotion and embedding a podcast shows the variety of content, giving recipients a lot of options."
Under the best of show division, Business News’ website took out the top award for its modern design element and helpful layout.
The judges said featuring a main story instead of many showed a bold confidence in what the site had to offer.
“The site is smartly parceled out into different sectors to give visitors seeking specific content a clear path to what they want,” the judges said.
