BURSWOOD’S five-star hotel will become known as Hotel Inter-Continental Burswood under a deal nearing closure between Burswood and Six Continents Hotels and Resorts.
Six Continents and Burswood signed a non-binding heads of agreement in March signalling the intention for the two groups to join in the operation of Burswood’s five-star hotel and it is believed negotiations about each parties’ responsibilities are nearing completion.
The joint venture also includes the development of a 300-room three-and-a-half-star hotel to be branded Holiday Inn Perth.
It is understood Burswood will operate the food and beverage operations through its company, Burswood Catering and Entertainment Pty Ltd, as well as managing the meeting room facilities. Six Continents will manage the hotel and room operations.
The proposed development of the $50 million three-and-a-half-star hotel, Holiday Inn Burswood, will be located on vacant land opposite the Burswood Convention Centre.
Six Continents has made significant inroads into the Australian hotel market and recently signalled its intention to favour expansion through new management con-tracts rather than property acquisitions.
The group recently secured a management contract for the Furama Hotel in Darling Harbour with the intention of rebranding it Holiday Inn Darling Harbour.
In Perth, Six Continents manages two hotels, Crowne Plaza Perth and Holiday Inn City Centre Perth.
It rebranded the ParkRoyal Perth under its more internationally recognised brand, Crowne Plaza, in March.
