Truffle season is only a month away.
Now a permanent fixture on the Western Australian food calendar, truffles’ success has been hastened by the efforts of enigmatic restaurateurs Hans Lang and Marianne Kempf.
They spent 14 years at the top kitchen at Windows Restaurant before opening The Gala Restaurant in 2002.
Mr Lang and Ms Kempf were among the first to get their hands on the truffles now produced out of Manjimup and feature a special seasonally driven truffle menu each year.
So while they wait for the season to begin, The Gala Restaurant features a German-themed menu every Wednesday. A product of the ‘master chef’ training both proprietors received in Germany, the menu is an expression of German cuisine at its finest.
