While hospitality awards often feature Perth Metro and the South West operators, country pubs had an opportunity to compete against their peers at the inaugural WA's Best Country Pub Steak Sandwich Competition two weeks ago.
The Australian Hotels Association (WA), Tourism WA and The Swan Brewery spent the past month searching regional WA for the state's best steak sandwiches, culminating in a steak sandwich cook-off at the AHA Hospitality expo on May 14.
Dongara's Priory Hotel's steak sandwich was judged the best of the five finalists, which included Albany's Earl of Spencer, Derby's Boab Inn, Narrogin's The Corny Hotel and the Mundaring Hotel.

Previously know as the Western Australian Wine and Food Festival, the 2008 Good Food and Wine Show will take place from July 11-13 at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
The event brings together local and national producers from the food and wine industry and prominent chefs from across the country to give talks, including Kate Lamont.
And a reminder, the Riedel Masterclass will be held in the Wine Theatre on July 12.
The Austrian glassware company recognises that the bouquet, taste, balance and finish of wines are affected by the shape of the glass from which they are tasted.
The $140 entry to the workshop includes a set of four Riedel Vinum glasses.
