Perth-based Westgold Resources Ltd has appointed geologist Andrew Beckwith to the position of managing director, following the resignation of chief executive and executive director Tony Martin.
Mr Beckwith joined Westgold in 2006 as exploration manager following the acquisition of Navarre Resources Pty Ltd including the company's key Rover Project in the Northern Territory.
He has over 20 years of experience in the Australian exploration and mining industry, having held a number of previous roles including with Navarre Resources, AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Acacia Resources, Helix Resources, Normandy NFM and BP Minerals.
Over the last two years, he has managed Westgold's exploration activities at the Rover Project where the company has had considerable success at the Explorer 108 (Zn-Pb-Ag) and Explorer 142 (Cu-Au) prospects.
Westgold said outgoing chief Mr Martin had led the company through its restructuring over the past two and half years into a Northern Territory-focused gold and base metals explorer.
The company said Mr Beckwith was now ideally placed to lead the company through the next phase of exploration, as the focus of drilling moves to newly granted gold and copper targets, in particular the highly prospective Rover 1 prospect.
Mr Beckwith's appointment was effective from January 18, 2008.
