THE MAJOR banks in Leederville are exacerbating crime, says Town of Vincent Mayor John Hyde.
He said overflowing litter caused by discarded bank slips at automatic teller machines in Oxford Street was a “direct encouragement of vandalism and other crime.”
“Local businesses and the council have helped to lower the crime rate by looking after the appearance of Oxford Street – all the evidence proves that a community that doesn’t tolerate any level of crime, including littering, keeps the crime rate low,” Mr Hyde said.
“Particularly on weekends, banks slips from ATMs litter the pavements – it’s a disgrace. Banks can either design a better system of receipting transactions or they can pay to clean up their mess,” he said.
