ASX-listed 3D metal printing technology player, Aurora Labs, has now confirmed the appointment of Peter Snowsill as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer after he served five months as the Acting CEO. Snowsill, who has more than 25 years of tech-based executive, engineering and project management experience, took the reins during a period of restructuring and cost cutting largely brought on by the economic fallout of COVID-19 restrictions.
The Perth-based company has decided to overhaul its 3D metal printing commercial strategy from a manufacturing and direct distribution model to a less costly partnership, technology licencing and royalties’ business model.
It comes after a review of the company’s 3D metal printing technology operations that resulted in a plan to advance its super-fast RMP-1 printer towards commercial readiness within a year.
The strategic shift means Aurora can skip the burden of heavy infrastructure capital costs associated with being an engineering, manufacturing and distribution outfit.
Instead it is looking to remain a technology business and strike commercial partnerships with original equipment manufacturers and other major industry players in the 3D metal printing sector, representing a lower risk and lower capital pathway to market.
Aurora will seek to lever its partners’ capacity to assume or share the responsibilities for printer manufacture, sales and distribution.
A3D Chairman, Grant Mooney said: “I am delighted to announce Peter’s formal appointment as CEO and recognise his strong contribution in guiding the company through the recent restructure of its business operations and establishing our new technology development pathway.”
