The Art Gallery of Western Australia has appointed a new director over a year after the resignation of previous director, Alan Dodge.
The Art Gallery of Western Australia has appointed a new director over a year after the resignation of previous director, Alan Dodge.
Dr Stephano Carboni will be coming to Perth directly from his role as the curator and administrator of the Department of Islamic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York, a position he has held since June 2005.
Dr Carboni academic qualifications include a Ph.D. degree in Islamic Art and Archaeology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; and a BA/MA in Arabic Language and Literature and Islamic Art at the University of Venice, Faculty of Oriental Languages.
Alan Dodge resigned in July 2007 after 11 years in the role, and was replaced by acting director Gary Dufour since December 2007.
Dr Carboni starts in his new role on 20 October 2008.
