Architects win TAFE, school design

Perth-based designer Hassell has secured work on the redevelopment of TAFE's Balga campus, while T&Z Architects has won a contract related to upgrades to Carine Senior High School.

Both companies have been appointed as lead consultants on the projects, with Hassell's contract valued at about $1.2 million and T&Z's at $800,000.

The state government has allocated $32 million to upgrade North Metropolitan TAFE’s ageing Balga campus, which was built in the 1970s.

The project involves a new, multistorey building to replace the 22 transportable classrooms currently on campus. It will provide training in building and construction, community services and general education.

A construction contract is yet to be announced.

The project is included in the state government’s $229 million Rebuilding our TAFEs program, of which $167 million is allocated to TAFE upgrades around the state.

The total upgrades set to create about 1,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, Carine Senior High School will receive a $32 million upgrade to provide classrooms and facilities for up to 600 students.

The project was included in the state government’s $492 million package for new schools and improvements to existing schools across Western Australia.
