Stephen van Leeuwen has been appointed to the newly created position of indigenous chair of biodiversity and environmental science at Curtin University. Dr van Leeuwen is a Noongar man who spent three decades as a senior scientist with the Western Australian Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. He is also a member of a number of committees and panels including the Indigenous Advisory Committee to the federal Environment Minister, and the federal government’s Wildlife and Threatened Species Bushfire Recovery Expert Panel. The new role, the first of its kind in Australia, is part of a long-term partnership between Curtin University and BHP.
Lachlan Hunter has been named as the WA National Party’s acting state director. Formerly the president of the WA Young Nationals, Mr Hunter has worked for former Nationals federal deputy leader Bridget McKenzie and former Nationals WA leader Terry Redman. He has also held roles for the Department of Premier and Cabinet, CBH Group and InterGrain.
Former Committee for Economic Development of Australia WA state director Paula Rogers has restarted her own consulting business, PR Consulting. Prior to Ms Rogers’ four-year stint at CEDA, she was manager marketing, PR and communications at Baptistcare and general manager at The Hub Marketing Communications. She has recently been appointed as a board member at Barking Gecko Theatre and Edith Cowan College.
Alzheimer's WA has welcomed two new board members Majo Merriam and Leo Tsaknis. A recently retired social worker, Mrs Merriam has more than 20 years' experience in the aged care field with experience including working as the accredited assessor and delegate to the aged care assessment team at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Mr Tsaknis has been a barrister in Perth since the late 1990s.
Cedar Woods Properties has promoted Jimmy Lee to the new role of chief information officer, after working as the company's manager digital and technology. Mr Lee has a background in IT, with experience at Red Rock, Oakton and WesTrac.
Troy Flannery has joined Red Mountain Mining as technical consultant, initally for a six month period. Mr Flannery is also the chief executive at Abra Mining. He has previously worked as chief operating officer at Galena Mining and Hanking Gold group technical services manager.
