Another job for former McGowan staffer

A new job for John Langoulant in the UK has led to a reshuffle of Rottnest Island Authority's board, with a major promotion and the addition of Mark McGowan's former chief of staff.

Mr Langoulant recently took up the role of WA's agent general in the UK and Europe region, leaving many of his key positions as a chair and non-executive director up for grabs.

That's included the addition of Jo Gaines as chair of GESB and the promotion of Nicole Lockwood to chair of Infrastructure WA.

Now, Hamish Beck, who was previously deputy chair of RIA, has taken over Mr Langoulant's position as chair of the government agency overseeing Rottnest Island.

“John has been a passionate and committed chair who has overseen significant transformation of the island and RIA," Tourism Minister David Templeman said.

“I am also very pleased that Hamish has taken on the role of chairperson of the Rottnest Island Authority board.

“He is well placed to continue the program to transform the island while maintaining its essential character and accessibility for future generations.”

Mr Beck's promotion has also opened up a spot on the authority's board, which has been filled by Mark McGowan's former chief of staff, Guy Houston.

That comes just two weeks after Mr Houston scored a spot on VenuesWest's board.

Mr Houston, who became Mr McGowan's chief of staff in 2013, was a television journalist prior to entering politics.

He left the premier's office after Labor's emphatic win at the March state election, subsequently taking a role as a strategic adviser for Kerry Stokes' private company Australian Capital Equity.

Mr Houston will serve a three-year term on the RIA board.
