Perth-based Amcom has struck a deal with the University of Melbourne under which its Amcom Cloud Collaboration telephony and unified communications system will be used by 13,000 people accessing the university’s network.
The value of Amcom shares rose 8 cents, or 4.08 per cent to $2.04 at 2:20pm WST.
Amcom entered a partnership with the Australia Academic and Research Network (AARNet) in May as a way of facilitating deals such as that agreed to with the University of Melbourne.
Under the partnership, AARNet would essentially advocate the use of Amcom’s technology to its 39 member institutions - one of them being the University of Melbourne.
At the time, Amcom chief executive Clive Stein told Business News the partnership created significant opportunities.
“This has really positioned us incredibly well to service a big market, it will take time … it’s a very large market and it’s very significant,” Mr Stein said in May
“It’s a great opportunity and in time we’ll be able to translate that into numbers.”
Mr Stein reiterated that view in commenting on the deal with the university.
“The University of Melbourne’s early move to adopt Amcom Cloud Collaboration is a clear indicator of the product’s future potential in the higher education sector,” Mr Stein said.
“Large-scale contracts such as this validates the up-front investment Amcom has made in our ACC offering, leveraging off of our partnership with AARNet.”
Amcom has already deployed the cloud unified communications system to 14 other buyers across the country.
The services will be progressively rolled out across the University of Melbourne’s eight campuses over the remainder of the calendar year 2014.
