The Australia Malaysia Business Chamber Western Australia (AMBCWA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Bernard Chia as its new President. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and living in Perth, Chia brings a wealth of experience and a strong personal connection to both Malaysia and WA.
Chia's journey to the role of President stems from his deep cultural roots and commitment to creating bilateral trade opportunities between the two countries. As co-founder of ALYKA - a marketing agency with offices in both Australia and Malaysia - Chia has been active in providing business connections and networking opportunities for a range of individuals and organisations.
In Chia’s role as Vice-President, AMBCWA achieved significant milestones and growth.
Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, AMBCWA successfully rebuilt its membership base and drew major sponsors such as Fortescue Futures Industries, Malaysia Airlines, Commonwealth Bank, Curtin University, Squire Patton Boggs, Pitcher Partners and the Sarawak Government.
Today, AMBCWA boasts a flourishing community of members, with events regularly sold out.
Chia's vision for the future of AMBCWA is focused on driving membership growth, expanding business connections, and enhancing the value provided to members beyond business links.
Chia aims to sign more Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to enhance the business opportunities available to members, while also enabling significant cost savings for members conducting business in Malaysia by negotiating discounted flights and accommodation options.
Commenting on his appointment and vision for AMBCWA, President Bernard Chia said:
"I am honoured to be appointed as the President of AMBCWA. With my business and personal connections to both Malaysia and WA and a passion for strengthening people-to-people links, I am committed to taking AMBCWA to new heights and ultimately improving bilateral ties between Malaysia and WA,” said Chia.
With the patronage of Mr Ahmad Fikri Zakian, Consul-General of Malaysia in Perth, AMBCWA is a prominent bilateral business organisation that promotes business, investment, and cultural exchange between Malaysia and WA.
In collaboration with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), and the WA Government, AMBCWA hopes to build on the meaningful connections and opportunities it provides to its members.
