Building code seen as heritage threat
Newly restored heritage buildings on St Georges Terrace are set to become a showpiece, but architects and developers worry new rules will halt other projects.
Veronica Jeffery has more than 30 years of government policy and local community experience.
Ms Jeffery was appointed deputy chief of staff to Premier Mark McGowan in March 2021, after Labor was re-elected to office.
She was previously chief of staff to the Minister for Transport and Planning Rita Saffioti. Ms Jeffery initially joined Ms Saffioti’s office in 2018 as a special advisor. Prior to that, she worked for the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority as executive director of place management (2012 – 2018) and as director of portfolio at East Perth Redevelopment Authority (2009 – 2012) where she was focused on major projects such as the development of Yagan Square, Elizabeth Quay and the Perth Cultural Centre. During her time at the MRA and EPRA, Ms Jeffery had several stints as acting chief executive.
Ms Jeffery’s past roles included chief of staff to Sheila McHale, who held multiple portfolios (including Community Development, Indigenous Affairs, Tourism, Culture and the Arts) in the Carpenter Labor Government between 2002 and 2008.
