Dr Vanessa Guthrie AO was WA's first female mine manager when she first ran Huntly, the largest bauxite mine in the world, and was head of sustainable development for Alcoa World Alumina Australia and then Woodside Energy for over 8 years. She has held previous roles with RGC, Pasminco and WMC overseeing environmental management and community relations of mining and refining operations in gold, nickel and base metals, including those in the Northern Goldfields. Appointed executive general manager of Toro Energy's Wiluna uranium project in 2011, she became managing director of the company in February 2013 until her departure in 2016 to pursue board positions.
Dr Guthrie has been on the boards of Santos, Tronox, Cricket Australia, and Infrastructure Australia. She was chair of the Minerals Council of Australia, and deputy chair of the WACA.
Dr Guthrie has qualifications in Geology, Environment, Law and Business Management, including a PhD in Geology.
In 2017, she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science from Curtin University for her contribution to sustainability, innovation and policy leadership in the resources industry.
In 2021, Dr Guthrie was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the minerals and resources sector, and as a role model for women in business.
