Bergmann buys newspaper
Former Kimberley Land Council CEO Wayne Bergmann has bought the National Indigenous Times from the liquidator of the company behind the newspaper.
Former journalist Tony Barrass specialises in advising indigenous businesses and corporations in communications. He is on the board of Kimberley-based Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation. Mr Barrass became a celebrated journalist in 1989 as the first Australian reporter imprisoned for contempt of court for refusing to reveal a confidential source. He served a week in jail and was fined $10,000 rather than reveal his source for a story on the tax affairs of later-disgraced entrepreneur and WA Inc figure Laurie Connell.
