Tim Hammond SC is a barrister specialising in representing victims of asbestos disease and survivors of institutional child sexual abuse. He also has expertise acting for plaintiffs and defendants in medical negligence claims as well as workplace, motor vehicle and catastrophic injury cases. Mr Hammond advises and appears regularly in employment & industrial relations matters.
In 2022, he became a senior counsel and was appointed Silk by the Chief Justice of Western Australia. He also became a director of Hartwell Funds, which was established to address a market gap in litigation funding.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Mr Hammond worked at Slater & Gordon Lawyers from 2000 to 2010. He was a partner at Slater & Gordon's Perth office before becoming the managing partner and state practice leader for its Queensland operations from 2006 to 2009. From 2010 to 2016, he practiced as a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers.
In 2011, Mr Hammond was awarded the West Australian Bar Association’s Chief Justice’s prize for the most outstanding bar reader and the best performing reader at the Australian Bar Association essential trial advocacy course.
Mr Hammond had a stint in politics from 2016 to 2018 as the Federal Member for Perth, as well as the Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs and Shadow Minister Assisting in Resources.
He is a member of several boards including the Western Australian Bar Association and The Fathering Project, and a member of the Murdoch University Strategic Advisory Board.
