Curtin’s French defence connection
Curtin University and a French research institute are sharing expertise across a range of disciplines related to the defence sector.
Dr Tele Tan AM is a Professor in the Faculty of Science & Engineering at the Curtin University of Western Australia.
He has more than 20 years of research and development experience in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition.
In 2002, Dr Tan pioneered the approach of using image synthesis techniques to improve the performance of face recognition systems. This approach made it possible for face recognition systems to be deployed in outdoor and uncontrolled environment while still maintaining high accuracy performance and low error rate.
Dr Tan also co-founded in Autism Academy for Software Quality Assurance in 2015 to help support the transitioning of students with Autism to employment in the fast growing IT industry.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) and a PhD from the University of Surrey.
In 2021, Dr Tan was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to information and communication technology, and to people on the autism spectrum.
