Federal funds for Mends Street
South Perth’s Mends Street precinct is in line for an overhaul, after the federal government committed $2.5 million towards a $7.5 million redevelopment.
Steve Irons was an Australian politician and a Federal Member for Swan, Western Australia for the Liberal Party of Australia for 5 terms, retiring at the federal election in 2022.
He became Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister under the Morrison government in August 2018, before being appointed Assistant Minister for Vocational Education, Training & Apprenticeships from May 2019 to December 2020.
Prior to politics, Mr Irons had moved to Perth in 1981 to play Australian Rules Football for East Perth in the West Australian Football League. He began working at an air conditioning company while playing for East Perth, and became its owner in 1996.
