Steve Abbott has been appointed to the newly-created role of managing director at Caravel Minerals. Mr Abbott has been with the company since September 2018 as general manager of feasibility.

Steve Abbott is a mining executive with over 30 years of experience in senior international and resource sector roles. He has technical and management experience at senior levels across exploration, mining, processing, metallurgy, maintenance, smelting, refining, infrastructure, approvals and stakeholder engagement.
Mr Abbott became chief operating officer of Minbos Resources in June 2023. Prior to that, he had joined Caravel Minerals in September 2018 as general manager of feasibility before becoming managing director from May 2019 to December 2022. He was also the general manager of iron ore and industrial minerals at BC Iron, general manager of business development at Gindalbie Minerals, and spent eight years at Western Mining Corporation where he held various mechanical engineer and metallurgist roles, culminating in a period as smelter superintendent at Olympic Dam.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Curtin University of Technology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Metallurgy, an MBA from La Trobe University, and a Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
