Shelley Cable is a Nyoongar woman, passionate about Indigenous economic empowerment through business and financial literacy.
In September 2019, she became chief executive of Minderoo Foundation's Generation One which aims to create parity for Indigenous Australians, predominantly through meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities and social policy reform. Prior to that, Ms Cable was a senior consultant at PwC's Indigenous Consulting team.
In 2017, Ms Cable was invited to attend the United Nations and presented to the UN's Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, on how financial empowerment can help protect and express human rights. She was also a delegate to the Uluru Convention on Constitutional Reform, which resulted in the Uluru Statement of the Heart.
Ms Cable is studying to become a Certified Practising Accountant and, once graduated, will be one of less than 60 qualified Indigenous accountants in Australia. In 2016, Ms Cable was the first Indigenous person to be accepted into the Shell Graduate Program and a year later, she was awarded Curtin University's Young Alumna of the Year award.
She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a member of the Murdoch University Vice Chancellor's Strategic Advisory Board, and board director of Indigenous Finance and Business Indigenous Corporation. She was also a finalist in the 2017 and 2018 Western Australian of the Year Awards.
