Top women push harder for equality
At 26 per cent WA has the highest gender pay gap in the nation, but many of the state’s female business leaders are working on addressing equality in the workplace.
Sharon Warburton is one of Western Australia's most active and prominent company directors with board roles at Wesfarmers, Northern Star Resources, Worley, South32 and others. She has held influential roles in Perth, Sydney, London and Abu Dhabi across her extensive career.
In her executive career, Ms Warburton held senior roles in strategy and finance at Brookfield Multiplex in Perth and Sydney, ALDAR Properties in the United Arab Emirates, Citigroup in Sydney, and Rio Tinto in London and Perth.
She has been a member of Chief Executive Women, patron of the Curtin University Women in MBA Programme, and a part-time member of the Takeovers Panel since 2015. Previous board experience includes being a director of Gold Road Resources, Western Power and NEXTDC; chair of the Northern Australian Infrastructure Facility, co-deputy chair of Fortescue Metals Group and a board member at Perth’s Children's Hospital Foundation (formerly known as Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation).
Ms Warburton was the 2014 WA Telstra Business Woman of the Year, a 2015 Financial Review Westpac 100 Women of Influence finalist, and was awarded the Professional Achievement Award at the Curtin University Alumni Achievement Awards in 2017.
She is a Fellow of both the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
