Van Der Wielen to chair health council
The state government has appointed the advisory council of the Future Health Research and Innovation Fund, including HBF chief executive John Van Der Wielen as chair.
Professor Sandra Eades is experienced in the medical and biotechnology industry. She is a Noongar physician, researcher and professor, and the first Aboriginal medical practitioner to be awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2003. Prof Eades was also recognised as the New South Wales Woman of the Year in 2006.
Prof Eades has been the dean and head of Curtin Medical School at Curtin University since April 2020. Prior to that, she was a professor at the University of Melbourne, Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, and the University of Sydney.
In 2022, Prof Eades was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medical research, to Indigenous health, and to professional organisations.
