BHP spin-off named
The mining giant says it’s about heritage, but the new moniker for its less-loved assets shows the management team has plenty of latitude.
Ricus Grimbeek was chief technology officer of South32 in April 2017 and, prior to that, was president & chief operating officer for Australia where he oversaw the set-up of the Australia region for South32. His career has spanned numerous technical and operating roles across Africa, Australia, Canada and Colombia. In November 2011, Mr Grimbeek was appointed asset president of Worsley Alumina, having been head of Group HSEC at BHP Billiton from April 2009 to October 2011. He was also executive vice president of mining for Lonmin Platinum.

South32 Australian chief operating officer Ricus Grimbeek has pointed to the company's share price performance against BHP Billiton to show that its assets shouldn't be considered poorer quality, speaking at a WA Mining Club lunch today.
