Richard Sellers has a diverse career in the private and public sectors, ranging from education, fishing industry and the resources sector.
Mr Sellers was appointed as the acting director general of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation on 30 March 2020 for a period of 12 months. He also acted in this role for 4 months up to September 2018. His substantive role is director general of the Transport Portfolio in Western Australia, a position he has held since September 2016. He was also director general of the Department of Mines and Petroleum from 2009 to 2016. On 31 May 2021, Mr Sellers became director general at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.
Mr Sellers holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Biology, a Graduate Diploma in Education, and Master of Public Policy and Management.
In 2014, Mr Sellers was honoured with the Patrons Award, the highest public administration award in Western Australia. He was also awarded a National Fellow by the Institute of Public Administration Australia at its annual conference.
