Richard Kern has over 25 years of mining industry experience in safety and business improvement roles.
He has been the group manager of safety & sustainability at Bis since November 2018, and is responsible for providing strategic direction to the business in health, safety, environment and security.
Prior to Bis, Mr Kern spent over 20 years working in the nickel, iron ore and gold sectors within Western Australia. This included senior roles with Newmont Mining as the director of health, safety & security; Leighton Mining where his responsibilities were in risk management, health and safety; and with BHP Nickel West and WA Iron Ore where he led the response to a ministerial enquiry into their safety performance.
