
Richard Goodmanson was appointed to the Qantas board in June 2008 and retired in October 2019. He was director of Rio Tinto from 2004 to 2016. From 1999 to 2009, Mr Goodmanson was executive vice president and chief operating officer of EI du Pont de Nemours and Company. Previous to this role, he was president and chief executive of America West Airlines. Mr Goodmanson was also chief operations officer for Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of PepsiCo and a principal at McKinsey & Company. He spent 10 years in heavy civil engineering project management, principally in South East Asia. Additionally, Mr Goodmanson was an Economic Adviser to the Governor of Guangdong Province, China from 2003 until 2009. Mr Goodmanson was born in Australia and is a citizen of both Australia and the United States.
