
Peter Gillett has been with McLeods since graduating in 2002 and became a partner in 2012. He has particular expertise in local government law enforcement, and has carried out numerous prosecutions for local governments under the Planning and Development Act 2005, Health Act 1911, Local Government Act 1995, Building Act 2011 and other relevant local government legislation. Mr Gillett has appeared as Counsel in a range of jurisdictions including the Magistrates Court, District Court, State Administrative Tribunal, Liquor Licensing Court and the civil and appellate jurisdictions of the Supreme Court. Many of the Supreme Court appeals against sentences he conducted on behalf of local government have become the leading cases in relation to sentencing for local government offences in Western Australia. Mr Gillett frequently prepares papers and presents seminars to local government in relation to the enforcement of local government legislation, and the processes necessary to make local government law enforcement more efficient and effective.
